Group Work: Equipment/Props

What equipment will you need for your production?
List all items and include images.

The equipment needed in order to film our music video:

1 Camera

1 Tripod

1 White backdrop

1 Smoke machine

Props:

n our entire music video we plan to only use 3 props mostly because we think that we won't need to use props to emphasise the performance part of the video as it would take emphasis away from the artist. However we plan to show props in cut scenes where we want to add product placement or symbolise something. Also because we don't have a huge budget to successfully show the conventions of a hip hop video, we decided to add less props as we could always add them in later when editing or add effects that are still symbolic without having props to do that.

Props that we plan to use:

1 chair/stool similar to the one below (Provided by the school). This has no specific purpose however it just shows so variation in the shots and allows the artist to seat while he is surrounded by the female actors.

Beats pill (Bradley will bring this in). This would be mostly used as product placement to advertise the audience to buy this product as synergy with Dr Dre Beats and also shows how affluent the artists are. We plan to at least show this product at least 2-3 time minimum as a guideline for the audience to remember it without knowing , and also in other Hip Hop music videos they tend to show a product this amount of times as it is a great advertising technique.

$100 Bills (Printed off the internet, then cut and shaped to look realistic). We chose to use dollars as we are trying to fit in the American stereotypes of mainstream hip hop as the conventions of hip hop is often associated with the US.

You could also argue that in the video the girls are going to used as props/like props to fit into the 'Male Gaze' (Laura Mulvey) and 'Men Look Women Appear' (John Berger) stereotypes that are represented in Hip Hop, so therefore there would be a huge emphasis on the girls as a tool to make the male actors look more masculine and dominate.
